Communications & content design, rooted in purpose
Stories that make
people act, told with care.
I'm Nikumoni, a communications and content designer. I've worked in this field since 2017, with six-plus years of paid experience across NGOs, a government organization, and freelance projects. I turn research and real stories into content that connects with people. Right now I work for a non-profit organization that provides holistic palliative care to children living with life-threatening illnesses.
About
I grew up in Guwahati and trained as a researcher before I became a storyteller — my Master's in Women's Studies had me sitting across from women describing domestic violence and child marriage for government-commissioned research, long before I ever picked up a camera. That order matters to how I work: I still listen before I design.
Since then I've worked across NGOs, a government women & child development department, and now as Communications Manager for Happy Feet Home Foundation, a pediatric palliative care organization, where I write, edit, and design everything from donor letters to an Annual Report to a beneficiary documentary series. I work remotely, directing and editing footage that the on-ground team in Mumbai shoots. I split my time between Guwahati and Mumbai, and I'm comfortable owning a project end to end, from the first script to the final export.
Don Norman's writing, especially Design for a Better World, shapes how I think about this work: design that's genuinely human-centered has to answer to equity and dignity, not just usability.
How I work
Listen first
Every story starts as research, not a script. I sit with the people and data behind a project before I decide how it should be told.
Story as evidence
A good impact story should hold up like a good argument. I build narratives that donors and boards can act on, not just feel good about.
Craft with care
I write, edit, narrate, and design, so the version of a story that reaches an audience is one I've shaped end to end, not handed off in pieces.
Purpose over polish
The people in these stories are often vulnerable. I protect their dignity and privacy first, and let the craft serve that, not the other way round.
